Under NSW strata rules, a new kitchen (installing or removing cupboards) and hard floors in place of carpet are minor renovations that need approval, and a bathroom that needs waterproofing is a major renovation that needs a special resolution. In a house Out of the rooms being done, and out of the garage if the new kitchen needs to wait there.
In a unit The old cupboards go down on the day they come off the wall. The car park and bin room are common property, so nothing waits there.
In a house The benchtop, cabinets, vanity and old floor go before they take over the garage the trades need.
In a unit Packaging and offcuts in one last booking, then the lift and lobby are left as the building found them.
In a house Boxes, offcuts and the old table or fridge the new room replaced, swept up behind us.
Each of these holds up the load, and usually the trades waiting behind it.
Killara is in Ku-ring-gai Council's area. Each house, and each unit on its own, can book four cleanups a year from 1 January, up to 3 cubic metres a time with nothing longer than 2 metres, put out on the kerb the night before. If your things fit those rules, book the cleanup.
Units are covered by the same NSW EPA advice as houses: a home built before 1990 probably contains asbestos. In a block, the usual places are the sheeting behind old wet-area tiles, eaves linings and old vinyl. We never take asbestos. Usually, yes. NSW strata rules treat installing or removing kitchen cupboards as a minor renovation that needs approval. Your strata manager can tell you how your building handles the request. Put the load dates in it, since it asks when the work will happen.
No. Ku-ring-gai Council excludes every kind of kitchen and bathroom renovation waste from its cleanups, whether it comes from a unit or a house.
