Ku-ring-gai Council cleanups, and what they leave out
Ku-ring-gai Council collects bulky household rubbish by booking, and it takes more than many councils do: mattresses, TVs and whitegoods included. If your pile fits its rules, book it.
What it won't take is where we come in: the whole of a renovation, anything over the size limit, loose garden waste, and anything that has to be gone before the trades start.

Renovating in St Ives
Ku-ring-gai's cleanup takes none of a kitchen or bathroom renovation, not even a single cabinet, so a renovation's rubbish needs its own way out. We take it in three loads, each booked around your trades.

Skip bins on a St Ives street
Ku-ring-gai Council allows a skip on the road, footpath or nature strip only when there's no room for it on the property, and only once it's approved. It also weighs up street trees: a skip generally won't be allowed under a tree where the roots could be damaged, which rules out plenty of kerb on a leafy street.
When the drive is full of the trades' vans, a crew is often simpler. We load from the house, sweep up behind us, and nothing is left on the street overnight.
Plenty of renovations use both: the builder's skip for the steady waste of the build, and a crew for whole items like cabinets, whitegoods and furniture.

Work on a house built before 1990 starts with a test: the NSW EPA says asbestos is likely to be in it somewhere. If the work will open up the eaves, the wall behind old bathroom tiles or an old vinyl floor, test those first. Questions from St Ives
Can our old kitchen go out on a council cleanup?
No. Ku-ring-gai Council's cleanup excludes building and renovation waste, and it names all waste from kitchen and bathroom renovations. That covers the cabinets, the benchtop, the vanity and the tiles. We take all of it.
Is it the same council as Davidson?
No. Davidson is under Northern Beaches Council, which allows two bulky goods collections in 12 months and won't take TVs or computers. Ku-ring-gai allows four bookings a year from 1 January and does take e-waste.
Our unit's cleanup booking won't hold everything. Can you take the rest?
Yes. Put out what fits in the council's 3 cubic metres if you like, and we'll take what's left over. If it's simpler, we'll take the lot in one visit.
Can the truck get into our building's car park?
It may not need to. If the ceiling is low, we can park outside and wheel the load up the ramp on a trolley. Tell us about the lift and the ramp when you get in touch.
How do you work out the price?
We look at the load, then give you one fixed price that covers carrying, loading, sweeping up and taking it to a licensed facility. A long drive or a trip in the lift is part of that price, not added afterwards.
